Michael Hutchinson, a member of the Misipawistik Cree Nation, began his diverse career as a fisherman and firefighter before transitioning to journalism, where he worked as a reporter with Calgary Straight and Aboriginal Times. He moved from journalism to communications with the Indian Claims Commission and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs. Later, as a project manager for the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba, he helped create the “We Are All Treaty People” campaign. Michael then moved to APTN where he produced investigative documentaries and co-hosted APTN National News. Transitioning back to communications, he worked with such advocacy organizations as the Assembly of First Nations and MKO. He served as co-host for CTV Morning Live Winnipeg and is currently the Communications Manager at the First Nations Education Resource Centre, where he aims to revitalize First Nations languages and cultures. Michael’s most cherished role is as a father to two daughters.
