Biography

Peguis First Nation/Winnipeg

Vanessa, of the Mikinaak (Turtle) and Doud Clans, is dedicated to serving The People. As a ShkaabeKwe (Helper), she is deeply engaged in Indigenous Sexual Health Facilitation, Adult Education for social change with Righting Relations, and anti-oppression education with Red Tent. With a focus on decolonizing mental health, substance use, and relationships, she has conducted numerous workshops. Currently serving as a Cultural Support Provider at Wa-say Healing Centre, Vanessa holds a First Nation Counselling Degree from Brandon University. Her highest education comes from Sundance/Fasting ceremonies, time spent in nature and with esteemed teachers, the Elders, Medicine People and Family. She is a mother of two and an Aunty to many.
