Biography
Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Garrison Settee was born and raised in a Cree-speaking home in Pimicikamak Cree Nation, where his parents instilled strong spiritual values and a work ethic that keep him grounded to this day. Garrison Settee spent many years teaching Grade 12 First Nations Studies and First Nations Law in Cranberry Portage, Moose Lake, and Cross Lake before serving as Chief of Pimicikamak Cree Nation from 2008 to 2013. He has served as Grand Chief of MKO since August 2018. As Grand Chief, Garrison Settee has been a strong advocate for the North as well as for MMIWG and Indigenous and First Nations issues in settings of all kinds, even going all the way to UN meetings in Geneva, Switzerland to represent MKO and expose Canada’s treatment of Indigenous people.
