More Performers Announced for Vision Quest:

Burnstick & Ila Barker

This year’s Vision Quest Virtual Conference is being presented October 20-21, and will be available for 30 days on demand for registered delegates.

Highlights include keynote presentations by award-winning singer/songwriter Susan Aglukark and entrepreneur and author Kendal Netmaker, ten workshops for professional, community and personal development including a youth stream of sessions. With featured entertainment by some of Manitoba’s best Indigenous performers, including…

Jason, a Plains-Cree guitarist, and Nadia, a Francophone-Métis singer-songwriter, create Burnstick. A husband-wife team whose voices and languages blend together with ease, Burnstick pushes the boundaries of contemporary folk music while allowing the beauty of simple melodies to shine through. In 2015, they created an award-winning all-original lullaby album that married languages and bridged cultures. Burnstick released its JUNO-nominated debut album Kîyânaw, which encourages the reclamation of each other’s cultures while choosing to be stronger, together.

With soul and voice as smooth as warm honey, Ila Barker captures audiences with her sweet melodies and dynamic presence. Ila is of mixed Anishinaabe and settler heritage with roots running deep in the Manitoban prairies. Her craft is seasoned with rich history and powerful refined textures. Coming from a long line of storytellers, she fuses authentic and timeless notes creating moments of serenity and blissful escape. In February of 2020, Ila released a single called Let Go. Atmospheric and stripped down, this collaboration with UK based artist Milan André was recorded off the floor in one take in the northern Cree nation of Nemaska, Quebec, and made it to #15 on the Indigenous Music Countdown.

Vision Quest is Canada’s longest running Indigenous Business, Community and Economic Development Conference, offering workshops, culture and entertainment, and youth programming.
